Chapter 11: The engineer

Bang! The buzzing motor roared with excitement. Steadily, I held out the screw driver. Again, I sat down drilling in bolts and screws with oil covering me. The moon shined bright and it was ready. Like a ghostly whisper slipping through the cracks, the smoke billowed from the chimney. As the water churned, I turned the hatch and checked the monitors. Then I looked behind. There was a crack in the ceiling with water spewing everywhere. The floor beneath me collapsed as I floated around, screaming for help despite knowing that no one was around. Floating in front of me was a wrench. As it glistened in the light, I whisked it away from the water then dove down, unbolting every piece I could.

With each bolt I loosened, the water seemed to swirl faster, as if the submarine itself was throwing a tantrum. Suddenly, a chorus of voices erupted from the depths below.

"Stop that, you're making it worse!"

I glanced around, bewildered. Who could possibly be down here with me?

A pod of disgruntled dolphins emerged from the murky water, their beady eyes glaring accusingly.

"We live here, you know!" one of them scolded, flipping its tail in annoyance.

I blinked, unsure if I was hallucinating or if dolphins were truly berating me in the midst of my underwater predicament.

"Sorry, I didn't realize," I stammered, trying to placate the irate marine mammals.

"No excuse for being a bumbling human!" another dolphin chimed in, splashing water in my face.

Desperate to make amends, I offered the dolphins the wrench I had retrieved. To my surprise, they expertly caught it in their sleek fins and began to tighten the loose bolts with remarkable efficiency.

As the water level receded and the submarine stabilized, the dolphins nodded in approval.

"Remember, next time, consult with the locals before you go tinkering with underwater machinery!" the leader advised before disappearing into the depths.

I chuckled to myself, realizing that I had just received a lesson in submarine repair from a pod of dolphins. But hey, in this absurd underwater world, anything was possible.

Chapter 33: An Underwater Revelation

"Well? Are you just going to stand there slack jawed, or do you want to get out of here?"

Still frozen from the surreal encounter, I muster some incoherent words, and ponder the irony that a pod of dolphins could communicate far more eloquently than me, an actual human.

"I ... I can't!" I stammer. "My submarine is wedged between two rocks!"

"Come with us!" said one of the dolphins.

With a mixture of trepidation and excitement, I dove into the water, allowing it to envelop me in its cool embrace. The pod of dolphins circled around me, and created an air bubble that allowed me to breathe like I was above water. They then guided me deeper into the ocean. With each stroke, I felt a sense of belonging, as if I was tapping into a primal connection with the sea itself.

After what seemed like an eternity, we arrived at the entrance to a hidden cavern, obscured by seaweed and coral. The dolphins nudged me forward, urging me to enter.

Inside, the cavern opened up into a vast underwater chamber, illuminated by bioluminescent organisms dancing in the water. At the center of the chamber lay the remains of an ancient ruin, its weathered stones whispering tales of a bygone era.

The dolphins swam towards the ruins, beckoning me to follow. As I approached, I noticed a series of intricate carvings adorning the walls, depicting scenes of a lost civilization. What could this all mean?
